Application Engineer

We invite you to join an elite SWAT team of experts providing operational trade-floor support to traders and portfolio managers on the Vanguard equity desk. Our equity trade floor comprises highly professional and thoughtful clients who utilize world-class tools that require performant deterministic applications with accurate data and timely portfolio holdings. The desk trades equity stocks, ETFs, and certain derivatives for our funds, both active and passive, exceeding $6 trillion, with quarterly trading of around $160 billion. This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with Vanguard’s core business and grow your business and technical skills, making you a desirable candidate for future roles. Our Run Organization is responsible for ensuring the software operates effectively, monitoring jobs, applications, business processes, and addressing trader and portfolio manager concerns. Following a 'follow-the-sun' operational model means in-person work is expected during normal Malvern work hours, with handoffs to various global regions in the evening. We resolve over 50% of issues independently without referring to core product teams, giving us unique insights into high-volume trading processes. You will work closely on the US Equity Trade floor, providing production and operational support for portfolio management, trading, capital markets, security lending, data, and investment book of records teams. Supported applications include both built and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software, SaaS solutions, and modern AWS microservice architectures along with monolithic applications. This role allows for close interaction with Vanguard's core business teams, offering valuable insights into how our company operates.
