Requirements
Must:
- A bachelors degree in computer science or a related discipline.
- Over 7 years of professional experience in full stack development, including a leadership role in technical decision-making.
- Proficiency in at least one backend framework (preferably Ruby on Rails) and one frontend framework (preferably React).
- Extensive experience in designing and utilizing RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases (like PostgreSQL), data modeling, and query optimization.
- Proven experience applying accessibility standards in production environments.
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git), CI/CD methods, and Agile practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working on VA.gov or in other regulated or federal settings is beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and sustain features across backend APIs and frontend interfaces for large-scale federal platforms.
- Lead development initiatives using backend frameworks (such as Ruby on Rails) and modern JavaScript frameworks (React preferred).
- Optimize and integrate external APIs and backend systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance.
- Develop user interface components that comply with WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 accessibility standards, providing outstanding user experiences.
- Enhance performance across the entire stack for high-traffic, public-facing services.
- Advocate for best practices related to code quality, security, and maintainability.
- Conduct architecture reviews, offer technical direction, and mentor other engineers.
- Work in conjunction with DevOps, SRE, and QA teams to ensure seamless deployments and production stability.
