Requirements
Must:
- A Ph.D. in AI or equivalent research experience.
- Proficiency in Python and PyTorch for data processing, model training, and inference.
- Expertise in Vision-Language Models and image/video retrieval.
- A solid understanding of key computer vision techniques for classification, image/video retrieval, 3D modeling, and image/video generation.
- Experience with frameworks for large-scale multi-GPU training (e.g., PyTorch Lightening, Nemo) and large-scale inference (TensorRT, vLLM) is a plus.
- Over two years of experience as a tech lead or manager of science/engineering teams.
- Strong attention to detail when working with data, models, documentation, and processes, ensuring standards are met consistently.
- Effective communication skills to convey complex issues clearly to both technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to synthesize and clarify ambiguous problems, helping teams arrive at practical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Team Development and Leadership: Build and guide a high-performing team of applied researchers and machine learning engineers, fostering a collaborative environment focused on accountability and skill development.
- Research and Development Ownership and AI Model Lifecycle Management: Manage the creation, oversight, and evolution of multimodal solutions aligned with AI initiatives across the company. Establish structured processes for data acquisition, model training, and inference while maintaining high model quality through various evaluations.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to ensure alignment of AI solutions with eBay’s objectives, translating research and product requirements into development plans.
- Operational Strategy: Develop work plans reflecting team priorities and long-term goals, adapting swiftly to changing requirements while focusing on impactful outcomes.
- Process, Standards and Compliance: Set and uphold clear standards for data collection, model training, and evaluations, collaborating with responsible AI teams to ensure model safety.
- Metrics and Reporting: Establish key performance metrics for AI models and uphold operational excellence for data pipelines and models in production.

The anticipated salary range for this position is between $210,400 and $280,900. Compensation may vary based on diverse factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional elements such as a target bonus and stock options, along with a comprehensive range of benefits. If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position," and the company retains the right to modify base salary and other compensation programs at any time due to various factors including individual performance and market conditions.
