Requirements
Must:
- Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in direct people management and over 3 years managing other managers.
- A Master's degree in Computer Science or a Bachelor's degree with equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop large engineering teams and managers, along with strong coaching skills.
- Significant hands-on technical experience in software development, architecture, and systems design, with the capacity to deeply understand complex technical challenges and trade-offs, even without daily coding.
- Ability to establish a technical vision, align it with business strategy, and make long-term architectural decisions.
- Proven history of successfully delivering complex, high-quality software products at scale, with expertise in Agile methodologies.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with the skill to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, fostering strong cross-functional partnerships.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking capacities, adept at navigating ambiguity and making sound decisions under pressure.
- Experience in establishing processes, metrics, and driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Technical Vision & Strategy:
- Define and advance the long-term technical vision, roadmap, and architecture for the engineering organization.
- Align engineering strategies with overarching business objectives and product vision.
- Assess and recommend new technologies, tools, and methodologies.
- Ensure technical decisions promote scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop multiple Engineering Managers and Team Leads.
- Oversee the hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development of engineering staff, including managers and senior individual contributors.
- Cultivate an innovative, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture.
- Build and sustain team morale, engagement, and retention.
- Delivery & Execution:
- Supervise the planning, execution, and timely delivery of complex software projects across various teams.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in coding standards, code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/deployment.
- Manage engineering budgets, resource allocation, and capacity planning.
- Monitor key performance indicators related to delivery velocity, quality, and system health.
- Process & Operational Excellence:
- Establish, refine, and standardize engineering processes (e.g., Software Development Life Cycle, Agile/Scrum/Kanban, release management, incident response).
- Drive continuous improvements in engineering efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Implement and track metrics for team and organizational performance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with Product Management, Design, Data Science, Security, and IT/Operations to determine requirements, prioritize work, and facilitate successful product delivery.
- Partner with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and company-wide objectives.
- Represent the engineering organization in cross-functional meetings and strategic discussions.
- Technical Oversight & Quality:
- Provide high-level technical guidance and oversight across projects.
- Advocate for software quality, best practices, and operational reliability.
- Ensure systems are designed for scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
- Manage technical debt and advocate for necessary refactoring and infrastructure investments.
- Resource Management:
- Grow your team through coaching and mentoring.
- Anticipate hiring needs and participate in recruitment strategies.

The expected base pay range for this position is between $233,200 and $311,300, and the total compensation may also encompass other elements such as a target bonus and restricted stock units alongside a comprehensive benefits package.
