- I am seeking a candidate with over 6 years of experience in embedded systems development, ideally within a robotics, automation, or electro-mechanical company.
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems is essential, along with a strong understanding of RTOS concepts or bare-metal programming.
- Experience in designing and integrating hardware platforms utilizing microcontrollers (e.g., STM32) is necessary.
- Hands-on experience with hardware debugging tools, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG.
- A solid understanding of electrical systems, including power distribution, safety circuits, sensors, and actuator control.
- Familiarity with production-level embedded features like OTA updates, bootloaders, diagnostics, and logging.
- The ability to manage projects from inception to completion and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams is required.
- Must be able to work on-site in Chicago.

Responsibilities
- I expect you to contribute to the architecture and development of embedded firmware across various subsystems like motors, sensors, cameras, and actuators.
- You will be responsible for developing modular, production-quality firmware that ensures field updates, diagnostics, and structured error handling.
- Designing and implementing communication protocols (CAN, UART, I2C, SPI) across a distributed system will be part of your role.
- You will oversee schematic reviews and PCB design decisions while collaborating with internal and external teams.
- It’s important that you ensure all electrical subsystems are designed with compliance (UL, NSF) and manufacturability in mind.
- I will look to you to define test plans and assist in the development of fixtures for board bring-up and system integration.
- You will develop safety-critical firmware features such as interlocks, watchdog timers, and emergency stops.
- Supporting HALT testing, root cause analysis, and reliability growth through firmware instrumentation and data logging will be tasks under your responsibility.
- You will work closely with our Lead Software Engineer to align embedded logic with cloud systems and dashboards, partner with the mechanical team for control strategies, and collaborate with manufacturing for production test firmware and calibration tools.
