Requirements
Must:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory or lead mechanic role within a hotel or related industry, or a technical certification coupled with at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
- A stationary engineers license, if mandated by local regulations.
- Proficiency in HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance.
- A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is essential.
- Willingness to work extended hours when necessary.
- Capability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to carry, lift, push, or pull objects.
- An approachable and friendly demeanor at all times.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with employees and guests.
- Ability to listen actively and clarify concerns raised by staff and visitors.
- Competence in managing multiple tasks and prioritizing departmental responsibilities to meet deadlines.
- A commitment to greet all guests and employees with friendliness, attentiveness, and courtesy.
- Participation in mandatory hotel meetings and training sessions.
- Availability for Manager on Duty (M.O.D.) responsibilities as needed.
- Adherence to Highgate Hotel standards regarding attendance and scheduling, aligned with hotel requirements.
- High standards of personal grooming and appearance, including wearing of nametags.
- Compliance with Highgate standards and regulations to ensure safe and efficient hotel operations.
- A focus on enhancing productivity, identifying challenges, and assisting in implementing effective solutions.
- Proficient problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate, prevent, identify, and resolve issues as necessary.
- Capability to analyze and assess complex information and data from various sources to achieve relevant objectives.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily functions of the engineering department, ensuring operations run smoothly.
- Assist in formulating and executing plans to maintain hotel properties, equipment, and grounds in a secure and satisfactory condition.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to hotel operations.
- Supervise and mentor all engineering personnel in customer service, empowerment initiatives, standard operating procedures, and loss prevention measures.
- Develop and post schedules for the engineering team.
- Prepare and adhere to the annual budget for the engineering department.
- Assist in creating financial forecasts and actively participate in monthly profit and loss review meetings.
- Implement and manage a preventative maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
- Ensure inspections, testing, and certifications of all emergency and life safety equipment adhere to Highgate Hotel standards.
- Actively engage in energy conservation efforts within the hotel.
- Review feedback from guests and meeting planners to identify and rectify any issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Assist in the administration of vendor contracts related to the engineering department.
- Respond promptly and courteously to room maintenance requests.
- Immediately investigate and address all alarms to ascertain location and cause, reporting findings to the Front Desk.
- Provide support for special projects and renovations as needed.
- Engage with and contribute to all Highgate Hotel programs.
- Lead and/or participate in the Highgate Hotel Safety Committee activities.
