Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management, Business, or another healthcare-related field
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification
- Minimum of 5 years of coding experience in a hospital-based inpatient/outpatient setting
- Previous auditing experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Supervisory or lead experience in coding preferred
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Knowledge of EMR systems, particularly Epic, 3M, Vizient, HealthStream, Cloudmed, and AudaPro preferred
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
- Ability to produce executive-style oral and written reports
- Extensive knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and reimbursement regulations
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily coding audit and analyst work queues and personnel
- Monitor auditing/analyst software for compliance with coding standards
- Manage daily work volume and staff assignments
- Lead team meetings and provide feedback on performance metrics
- Conduct staff evaluations and provide coaching as needed
- Troubleshoot operational issues within the team
- Perform periodic coding audits to ensure quality metrics are met
- Act as a subject matter expert in coding and documentation processes
- Update internal departmental coding guidelines and communicate changes
- Gather and present data trends to leadership and staff
- Conduct onboarding for new coders and analytical staff
- Advocate for improvements based on auditing insights
- Validate coding accuracy and adherence to policies
- Attend and document relevant departmental meetings
- Execute additional duties as assigned
