Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Over 7 years of software engineering experience, including more than 4 years in building and managing edge/appliance systems or production Linux infrastructure.
- Advanced Linux systems administration skills, particularly in Debian/Ubuntu, packaging (apt/dpkg), firewall setups (UFW/iptables), and automated OS provisioning (preseed, cloud-init).
- Extensive knowledge of Docker and Docker Compose, specifically in service dependency management, container image optimization, health checks, and fleet-wide updates.
- Strong programming skills in Go (primary language for Controller API and supervisor binaries) and Bash/shell scripting; familiarity with Python and Node.js/TypeScript is beneficial.
- Practical experience with networking principles, including WireGuard, mDNS, DHCP, MQTT (EMQX or Mosquitto), and NAT traversal.
- Proficient in AWS services applicable to IoT and edge deployments, such as Cognito, Fargate (ECS), Aurora/RDS, S3, Route 53, ECR, and IoT Core.
- Experience in creating VM images (Packer, cloud-init) and distributing appliances in various formats (OVA, QCOW2, VHDX).
- Understanding of PKI and device certificate infrastructure, including TLS client certificates, certificate authorities (step-ca or AWS Private CA), and key rotation methods.
- Familiar with infrastructure-as-code practices (Terraform or CloudFormation), CI/CD pipeline development, and automated deployment strategies.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalents).
- Comprehensive knowledge of security best practices regarding identity and access management, encryption both at rest and in transit, and vulnerability mitigation for edge systems.
- Proficiency in Mandarin is a plus.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Responsibilities
- Design and manage the appliance stack, which includes Docker Compose deployments, systemd services, a containerized MQTT broker, local Postgres, OIDC auth sidecar, and WireGuard/Relay integration to facilitate seamless site deployment.
- Define and manage the Linux distribution strategy using a Debian/Ubuntu base OS and implement unattended security updates.
- Create and maintain VM appliance images (OVA, QCOW2, VHDX) for distribution to Tier 1 sites.
- Architect and deploy zero-touch provisioning systems, covering device identity (including serial and certificate), integration with provisioning services, and automatic VPN setups, ensuring controllers boot-to-claimed without manual configuration.
- Develop and oversee the OTA update pipeline, ensuring signed manifest validations, atomic container updates, health-check-triggered rollback strategies, and offline update pathways through signed USB bundles for air-gapped deployments.
- Collaborate with firmware, mobile, and cloud teams to establish the appliance API surface, deployment contracts, and integration mechanisms between the on-premises console and Cloud Portal.
- Assess and standardize the AWS cloud services utilized for provisioning, relay, and management plane, including Fargate, Aurora, Cognito, and ECR, to achieve desired performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
- Implement and sustain monitoring and alert systems for site health, covering heartbeat telemetry, update status reports, and local diagnostics accessible to non-technical installers and customer IT personnel.
- Address and resolve production issues related to device provisioning, updates, local connectivity, VPN tunnels, and on-premises infrastructure, prioritizing responses based on customer impact and service level agreements.
