Requirements

Must:
I am seeking a candidate with at least 8 years of progressive experience in VFX, animation, or digital media technology roles, including a minimum of 3 years in people management or technical leadership. The ideal applicant should have a proven track record in architecting and maintaining large-scale VFX or animation pipelines, infrastructure, and cloud solutions. Strong proficiency in programming and scripting languages, such as Python and C++, along with relevant VFX software like Houdini, Maya, Nuke, and Unreal Engine, is essential. Experience in integrating real-time technologies, automation tools, and AI/ML workflows into production environments is desired. Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities, as well as a deep understanding of network architecture, data security, and intellectual property protection best practices, are critical. Moreover, the candidate must have experience working with both creative and technical stakeholders under tight deadlines and have a proven history of initiating, managing, and completing infrastructure projects valued at $2 million or more.

Responsibilities

In the role of Sr. Manager of Platform Engineering in our Technology Studio, I will lead, strategize, and oversee the technical infrastructure supporting our VFX, Building Information Modeling (BIM), pre-Visualization pipelines, and Live Entertainment teams. I will develop and implement a long-term vision, architecture, and roadmap for VFX infrastructure, ensuring its scalability, reliability, and innovation to meet current and future project requirements. Balancing the needs of the VFX team with other users of the shared infrastructure is vital. I will mentor and expand a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technologists, and pipeline specialists, nurturing a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Additionally, I will manage daily operations of technology platforms, including on-premises and cloud-based render farms, and collaborate closely with artists and production teams to design efficient asset management, rendering, and media pipelines. Evaluating and adopting new technologies, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring compliance with Disney’s security protocols will also be key responsibilities. Regular presentations of operational and project information to leadership will be an integral part of my role.
