Requirements
Must:
- 5+ years of experience managing Windows Server in production environments (AD/Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, IIS, Windows services, Task Scheduler, PerfMon/Event Viewer)
- Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, performance optimization, backups/restore, HA/DR concepts, security/roles)
- Knowledge of networking and firewall basics: TCP/IP, subnetting/VLANs, VPN (IPsec/SSL), NAT, routing fundamentals, TLS/PKI, and firewall rule management
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell or Ansible, along with comfort using CLI tools
- A problem-solving mindset focused on production troubleshooting: hypothesis-driven debugging and effective incident communication
- Strong customer-oriented approach with excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey technical challenges in terms of business impact
- Willingness to work off-hours for scheduled maintenance as needed
Other Skills:
- Experience with Public Cloud Operations, ideally Azure: compute, storage, networking, monitoring/log analytics
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as DataDog, Grafana, Zabbix, Windows Event Forwarding, Sysmon, etc.
- Understanding of web stack technologies: IIS, URL rewriting, reverse proxying, load balancing, and HTTP/HTTPS protocols; familiarity with tools like Fiddler/Postman/cURL/Wireshark
- Knowledge of virtualization platforms such as Hyper-V/VMware/Nutanix; understanding of network, compute, and storage performance concepts
- Exposure to security practices: MFA/SSO (SAML/OIDC), ADFS/Entra ID, hardening/benchmarking (CIS), EDR/AV operations, Okta, Microsoft 365
- Relevant certifications like Microsoft (Windows/SQL/Azure), Network+/Security+, or vendor firewall certifications (Fortinet/Palo Alto) are a plus
Responsibilities
- Oversee application operations for our software in hosted environments, including installations, upgrades, configurations, and troubleshooting
- Design and enhance environments: aid in evolving our hosted architecture to amplify growth, performance, and resilience; introduce innovative solutions to streamline operations and bolster scalability
- Conduct comprehensive troubleshooting across Windows Server, SQL, IIS, event logs, TLS/certificates, DNS, firewalls, networking, and application logs
- Manage SQL Server operations: backup and restoration, performance tuning, security, and scheduled maintenance tasks
- Execute deployments and releases: plan and implement customer rollouts; automate repeatable installations using PowerShell/Ansible; validate and document modifications
- Monitor and enhance system reliability: develop dashboards/alerts, capacity plans, and operational runbooks; initiate root-cause analyses and preventive measures
- Collaborate with customer engineering: respond to escalations from Support, engage in calls, and produce clear knowledge base articles and postmortems
- Ensure security and compliance: oversee least-privilege access, patching, vulnerability remediation, and certificate lifecycle management
- Support networking and firewall configurations: manage VPNs, site-to-site tunnels, NAT, ACLs, WAF/load balancers; perform packet captures and analysis as required
- Work collaboratively across teams: liaise with Developers to replicate issues, interpret stack traces, validate fixes, and enhance observability
