Requirements

Must:
- I require a minimum of five years of related work experience, with at least one year of development experience. - You should possess an undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience. - Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role with a focus on real-time data processing and analytics. - Strong proficiency in Python programming for data engineering tasks, with experience using Python libraries and frameworks. - Hands-on experience with real-time data streaming technologies such as AWS Kinesis, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or similar technologies. - Solid understanding of SQL and experience working with relational databases (e.g., Aurora). - Experience with data warehousing concepts and tools (e.g., Amazon Redshift, Snowflake). - Familiarity with data lake and Lakehouse concepts and tools (e.g., Apache Iceberg, Hive). - Knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration best practices. - At least 5 to 6 years of total experience with a minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in the specified skills. - Familiarity with Agile Development principles. - Experience with software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, dependency injection, testable code, and algorithms. - Experience with software engineering tools such as Eclipse, Git, and others. - Ability to write clean, maintainable code, and read code created by others. - A highly collaborative spirit, fast learner, and willingness to jump in and help wherever needed. - An enthusiasm for learning and experimenting with the latest trends and advancements in real-time data engineering and analytics technologies.

Responsibilities

- I will provide advanced level system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications and databases. - I will translate technical specifications into code for complex new or enhancement projects for internal clients, writing programs, developing code, testing artifacts, and producing reports. - I will elevate code into the development, test, and production environments on schedule, providing follow-up production support and submitting change control requests and documents. - I will train and mentor staff with less experience and resolve elevated issues while thoroughly understanding software development methodology and development architecture standards. - I will participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout the life cycle to identify issues and explain technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients. - I will engage with cross-functional team members, ensuring clear communication of systems issues at the appropriate technical level for each audience. - I will comply with Information Technology and Information Security policies and procedures, verifying that deliverables meet requirements. - Additionally, I will participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

In today’s world, data and data analytics are critical to all investment systems supporting the front, middle, and back office. In this role, I will be working as part of a full-stack team that supports Vanguard’s Quantitative Equity Group’s (QEG) cloud-enabled investment research capabilities. This includes signal generation, optimized back-testing capabilities, proprietary software packages, and data and analytics platforms used in the portfolio management of QEG’s active, factor, and alternate strategy funds.
