Requirements
Must:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of mechanical work experience and/or one year of technical school or training.
- Understanding of vehicle maintenance inspection and repair techniques.
- Familiarity with pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic principles and theories.
- Ability to pass the standardized MET and Commuter Rail Helper hands-on tests administered by UTA.
- Competency in basic computer operations including Outlook.
- Capability to safely handle energized equipment up to 480 VAC and 600 VDC.
- Must acquire and maintain QMP certification.
- Certification as a Qualified Maintenance Person for Locomotive as specified in CFR Title 49 part 238.
- Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, track mobile, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and other workshop equipment.
- Successful completion of training programs and qualification periods.
- Must provide necessary tools, with an initial list required by the first day of work and a more comprehensive set by the end of the probationary period.
- Effective communication skills with supervisors, colleagues, and customers, maintaining good interpersonal relations in person and over the radio.
- Proficient use of handheld radios following proper protocols.
- Must obtain and keep a DOT Medical card.
- Valid Utah drivers license required.
- Safe driving record, with no more than four moving violations in the past three years.
- No more than one conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the past ten years.
- Capable of fulfilling physical job requirements, such as walking long distances on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying weights up to 50 lbs regularly and over 51 lbs occasionally, and working in varied environments including outdoors in all weather.
- Regular and reliable attendance is essential.
Responsibilities
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on FrontRunner locomotives and related systems.
- Assist advanced-skilled employees with running repairs and heavy repairs of locomotives, cabs, and coach systems.
- Work on electric over pneumatic doors, HVAC systems, couplers, passenger amenities, communication systems, air brakes, cab controls, electrical, and diesel engines.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols while working on energized equipment.
- Maintain and repair tools and equipment as necessary.
- Keep accurate maintenance records and documentation of inspections and repairs performed.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to schedules.
- Participate in ongoing training programs to enhance skills and knowledge in maintenance operations.
