Requirements
Must:
- Masters degree in library and/or information science or equivalent
- Minimum of five years of administrative or leadership experience in an academic or research library
- At least three years supervising professional staff
- Experience managing user-facing functions such as reference, teaching and learning, or research services
- Proven ability to deliver user-centered services
- Successful track record in supporting college students and researchers
- Strong supervisory skills with the ability to listen, mentor, and lead
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Technological proficiency supporting teaching and research
- Good judgment and emotional intelligence
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with culturally diverse individuals
- Commitment to UCRs mission regarding social mobility, student success, research excellence, and community engagement
- (Preferred) PhD and/or experience supporting doctoral researchers
- (Preferred) Background in library access services
- (Preferred) Experience with change management and strategic planning
Responsibilities
- Provide vision and strategic direction for the User Experience and Services division
- Oversee the management and budget of the newly established division
- Lead the strategic development and evaluation of user-facing technologies and digital scholarship infrastructure
- Collaborate on policies affecting library operations, budget allocations, and human resources
- Define goals and execute strategic plans aligned with University priorities
- Develop and refine programs to enhance information literacy, including AI literacy and research data management
- Design and manage both onsite and online user services
- Streamline reference and research services across library facilities
- Work with senior leadership on space planning to enhance user-friendliness
- Build partnerships with academic units for impactful instructional and research services
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding divisional services and needs
- Represent the University Librarian as needed
- Lead discussions in local, regional, and national forums related to user services
- Participate in administrative duties and library-wide initiatives
