Requirements
Must:
- Experience in custodial cleaning operations, including familiarity with equipment like buffers and floor machines, power washers, blowers, and vacuum cleaners.
- Understanding of cleaning products and techniques for maintaining various floor types (tile, wood, cement, carpet).
- Knowledge of safe working practices, personal protective equipment (PPE), and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Capability to lift up to 25 lbs and move up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to learn and implement security protocols related to building access and key management.
- Basic English proficiency (reading, writing, listening, speaking), with the ability to read documents, MSDS, and warning labels.
- Proficient in understanding technical and safety documentation, following oral and written instructions regarding equipment and chemical safety.
- Strong communication skills to clearly convey information in-person or via radio.
- Basic understanding of the university environment, mission, and operational needs.
- Ability to work independently in less supervised or busy areas.
- Basic problem-solving skills to evaluate inquiries, prioritize tasks, and meet objectives.
- Maintain a respectful, professional, and customer-focused demeanor.
- Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to handle requests positively and follow through.
- Team-oriented with a willingness to collaborate.
- Experience in custodial services, ideally within a college/university housing or hotel management context.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality customer service in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Operate, maintain, and set up a variety of cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, buffers, and pressure washers.
- Perform cleaning tasks in offices, lounges, common areas, hallways, and other designated locations, including dusting, mopping, and vacuuming.
- Use equipment such as buffers or auto scrubbers to maintain floor cleanliness.
- Clean windows, furniture, and kitchen appliances, ensuring surfaces are disinfected.
- Maintain restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors, ensuring hygiene standards are met.
- Manage waste disposal, including trash, compost, and recycling, ensuring receptacles are emptied and maintained.
- Assist in setting up residential or meeting rooms, moving and arranging furniture as needed.
- Participate in conference operations by preparing rooms, changing linens, and properly handling cleaning supplies.
- Collaborate with teams during summer transitions, cleaning student rooms during move-out and ensuring thorough maintenance.
- Engage in custodial projects, including dusting fixtures and maintaining cleanliness in common areas.
