Requirements
Must:
We need candidates with a minimum of 6 years of experience in software development, either backend or frontend, preferably in platform or infrastructure engineering. You should have extensive experience in creating developer tools, platforms, portals, or self-service systems. Strong programming skills in languages such as TypeScript, Go, Python, or Java are essential. Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native environments is required. Experience with developer portal frameworks like Backstage, Cortex, Port.io, or custom-built solutions is necessary, along with an understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are vital for working across engineering, security, and product teams. We value a mindset focused on developer empathy, scalability, and operational excellence.
Preferred qualifications include hands-on experience with IDP platforms such as Port.io, Backstage, Cortex, or Humanitec, knowledge of SSO integrations (e.g., SAML, OAuth, OIDC) and RBAC systems, and familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace). Previous roles in platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure-focused positions, along with exemplary communication skills, are also preferred. Additionally, experience with build tools (Jenkins, TeamCity), GIT-based source control tools (TFS, Azure DevOps, BitBucket, GitHub), deployment and configuration tools (Octopus, XL Deploy, Ansible, Chef, Puppet), web-based technologies (ASP.NET, JavaScript, CSS), package management tools (NuGet, ProGet), database automation tools (RedGate, Datical, Liquibase), work tracking tools (TFS, Jira), experience in an Agile environment, and a strong understanding of the full SDLC process are valued.
Responsibilities
In the role of Internal Developer Portal Developer at UWM, I will ask you to engage in a dynamic, results-oriented .NET setting, focusing on constructing a highly scalable enterprise application. Your main tasks will include designing, developing, and maintaining Internal Developer Platform services, APIs, and tools for developers. You will be responsible for creating a modern, user-friendly Developer Portal that facilitates self-service provisioning of infrastructure, services, CI/CD pipelines, and runtime environments.
You will integrate with cloud platforms such as GCP, Azure, and AWS, as well as Kubernetes and internal systems. Championing platform best practices, including service cataloging, golden paths, scaffolding templates, and observability standards will be part of your role. Collaborating with platform engineers, product managers, and development teams to prioritize and deliver features that boost productivity will also be essential. Implementing access control, role-based security, and compliance measures in the portal is necessary, as is continuously optimizing the developer experience through feedback loops, analytics, and user testing. You will contribute to the platform strategy and technical roadmap, focusing on scaling, reliability, and architecture enhancements, and mentor junior developers while advocating for platform engineering principles across the organization.
