Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in a quantitative discipline such as Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field with Core Quantitative Curriculum.
- Alternatively, 4 additional years of relevant experience beyond the minimum education may be accepted in place of a degree.
- A minimum of 6 years experience in model validation, model development, statistical analysis, or advanced quantitative research, or an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) accompanied by 4 years related experience.
- Proven ability to communicate complex quantitative and technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, to non-technical audiences, senior leadership, auditors, and regulators.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, SAS, Java, C, SQL, or others for model and algorithm development, including specification setting, assumption testing, data quality assessments, variable selection, back-testing, and benchmarking.
- Advanced expertise in at least three statistical, econometric, data science, or predictive modeling techniques including but not limited to Unsupervised Learning, K-Means, Linear Regression, Time-Series/Forecasting, Stress Testing, Logistic Regression, Gaussian Process, Simulation Models, Boosting/Bagging Trees, Neural Networks, Deep Learning Concepts, and Bayesian Estimators.
- Strong understanding of the operational and support processes in Banking and/or Insurance, along with analytical modeling knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Execute independent model validation controls for high-risk in-house and vendor models.
- Utilize expert technical methodologies to create and execute validation testing strategies.
- Replicate model development and potentially create challenger models utilizing predictive modeling, machine learning, deep learning, time-series forecasting, stress testing, heuristic models, actuarial models, simulation, optimization, and other specialized techniques.
- Design and conduct assessments for model testing and data quality across different data types, including extensive datasets and unstructured formats.
- Review comprehensive lifecycle management for model development, implementation, ongoing monitoring, and application within Banking and Insurance sectors, along with their associated support functions and operational procedures.
- Evaluate model inherent risk classifications, applications of model declassifications, material changes, and conduct model change validations across various model types.
- Oversee and guide the model validation efforts of colleagues.
- Generate and present validation reports and related findings to management, model partners, senior leadership, and other stakeholders.
- Implement the model validation framework in line with established risk and compliance policies and procedures.
- Assess strengths and weaknesses of model risk controls related to development, implementation, and usage.
- Engage in professional development regarding innovative modeling techniques and methodologies.
