Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience
- A minimum of eight years of relevant software engineering experience
- At least five years of experience supervising software engineering teams
- Strong understanding of mainframe environments and Java-based applications
- Familiarity with COBOL and Java technology
- Experience leading platform modernization initiatives; cloud knowledge is advantageous
- Experience with data integration and APIs; knowledge of technologies like Tibco and Spring Boot is a plus
- Proven track record of managing critical platforms with accountability for their reliability and performance
- Experience in incident management and production support within highly regulated environments
- Demonstrated success in developing team managers and fostering high-performance teams
- Prior experience in credit cards, payments, or other regulated financial systems is preferred
- Capability to lead blended onshore/offshore teams and vendor partnerships
Responsibilities
- Direct an engineering team of approximately 40-60 engineers and contractors, including engineering managers, overseeing staffing, performance, and delivery outcomes
- Assume ownership of operational and delivery results for essential platforms, emphasizing stability, resiliency, and regulatory compliance
- Provide technical guidance across mainframe and distributed systems, assisting teams during complex delivery issues and incident escalations
- Propel execution of high-visibility initiatives, ensuring consistent delivery, transparency, and effective management of risks across competing objectives
- Lead and enhance modernization projects, maintaining uninterrupted business operations
- Improve engineering practices through informed design choices, quality standards, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Mentor and develop engineering managers and senior engineers, focusing on career growth, skill enhancement, and succession planning
- Cultivate strong partnerships with product, architecture, operations, and business leaders to align technology delivery with business goals
- Advocate for agile and product-oriented delivery models while ensuring accountability for results
