Requirements

Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience - Over 5 years of software engineering experience with a solid focus on backend or full-stack development - In-depth knowledge in creating and managing serverless architectures on AWS, including: - Lambda for compute - API Gateway (REST and HTTP APIs) for service exposure - DynamoDB or Aurora Serverless for data persistence - Step Functions or other workflow orchestration tools - EventBridge, SQS, or SNS for event-driven and asynchronous communication - S3 for object storage and data lake implementations - CloudFront for API acceleration and edge caching - Proficient in TypeScript and/or Python for backend applications, ensuring production-standard code and advocating for high quality across the codebase - Demonstrated capability to create and manage RESTful and GraphQL APIs, including designing contracts, versioning, error management, and type-safe tools (e.g., OpenAPI, GraphQL Code Generator, tRPC) - Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code utilizing AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform - Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools: CloudWatch, X-Ray, Datadog, or similar - adept at instrumenting services, tracking distributed requests, and responding to incidents - Thorough understanding of security best practices, including IAM policies, least privilege access, secrets management (Secrets Manager, SSM Parameter Store), and data encryption during transit and at rest - Extensive experience debugging complex issues across distributed systems including network traces, distributed tracing, log analysis, and profiling - Knowledge of testing methodologies at all levels: unit, integration, contract, and load testing for distributed systems - Experience dealing with containerized workloads (ECS Fargate, Docker) for services that do not conform to the serverless model - Excellent written and verbal communication skills capable of drafting clear RFCs, leading design reviews, and articulating complex trade-offs to non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and uphold full-stack features encompassing APIs, serverless services, data models, and event-driven workflows - Lead technical design evaluations, architectural discussions, and RFC processes to foster alignment among engineering teams - Detect and address systemic issues such as performance slowdowns, reliability deficiencies, scaling challenges, and technical debt hindering teams - Take ownership of complex debugging and troubleshooting across all layers - addressing issues from API delays to infrastructure misconfigurations and distributed system malfunctions - Adhere to and contribute to engineering best practices, covering code quality, testing strategies, observability, and deployment safety - Collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Product teams, and Front-End Engineers to define roadmaps and guarantee technical viability - Communicate technical risks, trade-offs, and recommendations proactively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
