Requirements

Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a similar field, or equivalent hands-on experience - Over 10 years of software engineering experience with significant backend or full-stack specialization, including at least 3 years in an engineering management or tech leadership position - Extensive knowledge in building serverless architectures on AWS, specifically with: - Lambda for compute - API Gateway (REST and HTTP APIs) for service exposure - DynamoDB or Aurora Serverless for data storage - Step Functions or similar tools for workflow orchestration - EventBridge, SQS, or SNS for event-driven and asynchronous communication - S3 for object storage and data lake implementations - CloudFront for API acceleration and edge caching - Proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python for backend services, capable of writing or reviewing production-quality code - Proven experience designing RESTful and GraphQL APIs, with a solid understanding of API contract design, versioning, error management, and type-safe tooling (e.g., OpenAPI, GraphQL Code Generator, tRPC) - Strong grasp of Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform - Background in observability and monitoring tools: CloudWatch, X-Ray, Datadog, or similar - Solid understanding of security best practices including IAM policies, least-privilege access, and data encryption techniques - Familiar with testing methodologies: unit testing, integration testing, contract testing, and load testing for distributed systems - Exposure to containerized workloads (ECS Fargate, Docker) for non-serverless services - Strong communication abilities to convey technical decisions clearly to engineers and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

- Lead, develop, and retain a team of full-stack and backend engineers, including talent acquisition, conducting performance evaluations, coaching, and mapping out career paths - Take charge of the backend architecture and technical vision for your area, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability across all services - Promote engineering standards through code quality guidelines, API design practices, testing methodologies, and ongoing improvement - Collaborate with Product, Design, and Front-End Engineering to conceptualize and deliver features from inception to deployment - Advocate for system reliability, observability, and security as essential engineering priorities - Establish and uphold best practices related to API design, data modeling, event-driven systems, and serverless architecture on AWS - Work with platform, infrastructure, and security teams to enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and manage cloud expenses - Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, translating technical complexities into business impacts - Balance strategic planning with hands-on participation, including reviewing pull requests, assisting engineers, and tackling challenging problems as necessary - Analyze and enhance key system metrics: latency, error rates, availability, and cost efficiency
