Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- Over 5 years of experience in manufacturing or automation engineering, ideally within a regulated industry; prior experience in Life Science or Biotechnology is advantageous
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
- Proficiency in automation technologies including PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.), control systems, robotics, or scripting (Python, VB, etc.)
- Experience with asset modeling software such as PTC ThingWorx, QAD Redzone, or similar
- Skills in maintaining and optimizing network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and cabling
- Familiarity with Digital Performance Management (DPM), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), digital analytical tools, and Industry 4.0 principles
- Equipment integration experience utilizing IoT applications, Ignition, OPC UA, or PTC Kepware
- Background in cloud-based automation platforms or IoT solutions
- Understanding of databases, APIs, and system integration
- Capability to interpret business and technical requirements for high-level designs/plans while estimating effort and costs
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations relevant to computerized systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate within a team and convey complex concepts to non-experts
- Proven time management skills through the ability to juggle multiple projects and meet critical deadlines
Responsibilities
- Spearhead the integration of IT and OT systems by identifying necessary hardware, software, and network architecture for seamless communication and data transfer across CTD sites
- Facilitate the scaling of automation initiatives within CTD operations, which involves selecting equipment and designing automation architecture, particularly for packaging equipment and its associated systems
- Aid in system data collection, analysis, and visualization to inform process improvements
- Collaborate with Business Leads and IT-OT Automation Leads to support project teams in enhancing process automation with IT-supported applications
- Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to provide technical mentorship in automation while contributing to long-term automation strategies; participate in design reviews, project meetings, and technical discussions
- Create User Requirement Specifications (URS) for new equipment and systems to ensure compatibility with the established network connectivity framework
- Formulate strategies for upgrading existing equipment to secure network connectivity
- Support every phase of equipment qualification and process validation; assist in training and supporting staff on new and upgraded equipment, including preparing technical documentation like design specifications, test plans, and user manuals
- Monitor the performance of newly implemented systems and offer technical support and guidance to site-level engineers and technicians, recommending efficiency and scalability enhancements
- Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies and suggest enhancements
