Requirements

Must:
- Advanced Degree with 6 years of experience, or Bachelors Degree with 8 years in systems engineering, product development, and technical leadership for complex scientific instrumentation - Preferred Fields of Study: Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field - Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams to implement collaborative solutions within project timelines - Strong analytical skills with capability for statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and root cause analysis - Experience in verification and validation planning, test development, and systems integration - Demonstrated proficiency in architecting and designing complex electro-mechanical systems - Project management skills to coordinate cross-functional teams and adhere to schedules - Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to varied audiences - Experience in mentoring engineers and providing technical guidance - Knowledge of quality management systems and regulatory requirements for scientific instruments - Familiarity with agile development methodologies is preferred - Willingness to travel up to 20% as required - Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail - Strong interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate effectively - Extensive experience in designing and implementing batch control systems in alignment with ISA-88 (S88) - Working knowledge of ISA-95 (S95) enterprise integration standards - Experience in integrating Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) - Proven track record of architecting complex, multi-platform automation solutions.

Responsibilities

- Lead the architecture and development of sophisticated automation systems including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLC, and integrated software platforms - Create integrated solutions utilizing DeltaV, Unicorn, KFCOM, and PLC-based control systems - Design systems that comply with ISA-88 batch control standards and ISA-95 enterprise-control integration models - Establish system architecture, interface specifications, equipment models, data flows, and control strategies - Convert product, process, and business needs into scalable and standardized automation solutions - Develop and implement batch control strategies, ensuring adherence to ISA-88 guidelines - Maintain proper separation of procedural and physical models in batch environments - Facilitate the integration of manufacturing execution systems (MES) with upper-level business systems in accordance with ISA-95 - Guide recipe design, batch sequencing, exception handling, and state management initiatives - Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), 21 CFR Part 11, and data integrity standards - Provide hands-on leadership for Emerson DeltaV DCS, Cytiva Unicorn, KFCOM, and various industrial PLC systems - Oversee the integration of process equipment, chromatography systems, sensors, actuators, MES, and supervisory software - Ensure robust communication using OPC-UA, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and other relevant protocols - Support alarm management, historian integration, and data contextualization efforts - Act as a subject matter expert for automation system design and batch architecture - Conduct cross-functional design reviews ensuring compliance with automation standards - Mentor engineers in S88 modeling, structured programming, and scalable architecture design - Drive the standardization of automation frameworks across multiple platforms - Ensure systems observe applicable regulatory and industry standards (GMP, FDA, GAMP 5) - Assist in validation processes including Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), Performance Qualification (PQ), and computerized system validation (CSV) - Perform risk assessments and ensure compliance with functional safety and cybersecurity standards - Lead the execution of complex multi-system automation projects and define automation roadmaps - Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and conduct root cause analysis as necessary - Collaborate with product management, quality, manufacturing, and external partners.
