Responsibilities
As a Systems Engineer III, I am responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and administration of system hardware, software, and associated infrastructure. I provide advanced level systems engineering and administration to ensure the functionality and availability of university-wide and mission-critical systems with minimal supervision. My role also involves after-hours monitoring of systems to assess their health and performance. Additionally, I serve as a senior technician specializing in the administration of Linux systems and infrastructure.
Description
To succeed in this position, excellent troubleshooting abilities are essential, along with the capacity to work independently to accomplish objectives. I value exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills. Experience in Linux systems administration, PowerShell scripting, VMware vSphere, configuration management using Salt or similar tools, and database management with MySQL/MariaDB or equivalent is highly sought after. Preferred qualifications include management experience in web hosting infrastructure utilizing Apache and PHP on Linux, and familiarity with technologies such as SUSE Linux Enterprise, Kubernetes, Docker, Rancher, SUSE Manager, Zabbix monitoring, RADIUS, LDAP, A10 Load balancers, Dell PowerStore storage, and defined storage solutions like BeeGFS, Ceph, and Gluster. Before making a hiring decision, I ensure that our final candidates pass a pre-employment background investigation, which includes a review of social media and other online sources. A past conviction does not automatically exclude a candidate from consideration, as each case is reviewed individually. As an equal opportunity employer, I guarantee that all qualified applicants receive fair consideration for employment without discrimination based on legally protected statuses.
