Requirements
Must:
- A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or leading mechanic capacity within a hotel or a comparable setting; alternatively, a technical certification with at least 1 year of supervisory or lead mechanic experience.
- Possession of a stationary engineer's license as mandated by local regulations.
- Proficient in HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
- Willingness to work extended hours as needed.
- Capability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Must consistently maintain a warm and welcoming demeanor.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of staff and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented way.
- Ability to listen actively, comprehend, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
- Competency in multitasking and prioritizing departmental tasks to meet deadlines.
- Approach all interactions with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Attend all mandatory hotel meetings and training sessions.
- Take part in Manager on Duty (M.O.D.) coverage as required.
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to Highgate Hotel standards based on scheduling needs.
- Uphold high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing name tags.
- Comply with Highgate Hotel standards and regulations to promote safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Strive to maximize productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
- Proficient at addressing issues, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems when necessary.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate complex data and information from various sources to meet objectives effectively.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform additional tasks as requested by management.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the utmost quality of service to customers at all times.
- Promptly and effectively address guest complaints and needs.
- Display a comprehensive understanding of emergency and safety protocols.
- React to all emergency situations and be prepared to assist.
- Manage the ordering of supplies, tools, and equipment while maintaining appropriate par levels according to corporate department standards.
- Support, maintain, and execute the department's back-of-house preventive maintenance program.
- Assist in additional duties as assigned and serve as the “Building Manager” as needed while ensuring maintenance and repairs of the building's interior and exterior.
- Confidently represent and support the Chief Engineer in their absence to ownership, corporate executive leadership, contractors, or other department heads.
- Develop and enforce a preventive maintenance program for back-of-house areas.
- Formulate and enforce a preventive maintenance program for building mechanical equipment.
- Review, adhere to, and comprehend all safety procedures.
- Conduct maintenance checks on equipment and maintain proper logs.
- Attend Daily Operations Meetings.
- Supervise and train all Engineering staff on Customer Service, Empowerment, Standard Operating Procedures, and Loss Prevention.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of all workspaces, shops, and storage areas.
- Train and supervise Building Managers on their daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly responsibilities.
- Evaluate Building Managers as necessary in coordination with HR.
- Ensure maintenance and obtain all required licenses per regulations from NYC, NY State, and other necessary government agencies.
- Manage staff performance and follow up with corrective actions as needed.
- Follow all established work rules, procedures, and policies, including those within the employee handbook.
- Navigate union-related issues effectively.
- Contribute to developing and executing strategies for the upkeep of property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in a safe, functional state.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.
- Oversee that all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified according to Highgate Hotel standards.
- Actively engage in energy conservation initiatives.
- Respond immediately to all alarms to identify exact locations and causes, determine emergency status, and inform the Front Desk; take immediate action as necessary.
- Support and engage in all Highgate Hotel programs.
- Lead or participate in the Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.
