Requirements
Must:
- Extensive experience with Java
- Proficient in Spring Boot and backend system architecture
- Knowledgeable in microservices and distributed system design
- Experienced with REST APIs and GraphQL
- Proven track record of building scalable, high-availability backend services
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Excellent decision-making ability in ambiguous situations
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
- Passionate about mentoring and supporting fellow engineers

- Enthusiastic about modern backend technologies and distributed systems

Responsibilities
- Transform business and technical requirements into scalable backend designs
- Craft clean, efficient, and maintainable code
- Own significant functional areas with deep technical insight
- Influence architectural decisions across teams and domains
- Enhance engineering productivity through best practices and tooling initiatives
- Design backend systems with adaptability for changing needs
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams to provide high-quality outcomes
- Utilize evidence-centered design to ensure testability and continuous delivery
- Manage features from inception to completion, breaking down work into manageable tasks
- Conduct code reviews while offering architectural insights, mentoring, and coaching to peers
- Contribute to and evaluate Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
- Identify gaps across systems, propose solutions, and shape the engineering roadmap
- Engage in release management, production support, and participate in on-call rotations for our always-on platform
Description
Based in Downtown Toronto, ON, we are seeking a Backend Software Engineer for a contract-to-hire role. Our company is at the forefront of live social commerce, developing a platform that connects buyers and sellers through real-time shopping experiences. We emphasize unique items, collectibles, and fashion, merging entertainment and commerce on a large scale.
