Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree
- High school diploma with relevant experience and professional certification can be considered
- Required certifications: CCNA or CCNP
- At least 3 years of experience as a Network Administrator
- Strong comprehension of network protocols and switching (TCP/IP, FTP/HTTP, UDP, VPN, etc.)
- Proficient in interpreting network topologies
- Advanced troubleshooting skills for routers, switches, wireless access points, UPS systems, firewalls, and associated network equipment
- Competent in activating and configuring switches, routers, NICs, LAN ports, etc.
- Capable of creating network and telecom closet diagrams
- Skilled in using network tools to diagnose, trace, and validate activities on LAN ports, network devices, and endpoints
- Ability to analyze logs and network traffic
- Must be eligible to obtain an NIH Public Trust Security Clearance
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs for rack and stack tasks
- Reliable transportation for on-call emergencies within the DC MD VA area
- Strong organizational skills for documentation practices
- Ability to collaborate effectively in team environments, both in-person and virtually
- Strong sense of responsibility and ownership
Responsibilities
- Coordinate work actions through in-person and virtual connections to alleviate IT burdens for our customers, allowing them to concentrate on scientific endeavors
- Share knowledge and expertise with the NIH technical community to assist fellow IT professionals at the institute level
- Collaborate with the CIT federal team and other service units as ONE CIT to support NIH initiatives
- Ensure the network infrastructure and related internet/intranet services achieve maximum uptime by swiftly and thoroughly addressing incidents, requests, and outages
- Utilize networking knowledge and emerging technologies to devise solutions in a fast-paced, highly collaborative federal enterprise environment, maintaining security, compliance, and support for scientific discovery
Description
We are seeking a Network Administrator to enhance our LAN/WAN services at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) under the Center for Information Technology (CIT). This role is centered in Bethesda, MD, where you will be part of a dedicated team supporting a resilient and secure network infrastructure that is critical for advancing science and research at NIH. We offer a competitive hourly pay range of $30.00 - $40.00, along with potential benefits like medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plans, and more.
