Requirements

Must:
- I possess in-depth knowledge of card-present payment flows (authentication, capture, settlement, chargebacks) and experience with gateways, acquirers or processors like Adyen, Stripe, Worldpay, or Fiserv. - I have hands-on leadership experience in building REST/gRPC payment APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures (Kafka/RabbitMQ/SQS) with high availability and robust idempotency. - I understand observability—tracing (OpenTelemetry), logging (ELK), and monitoring (Prometheus/Grafana). - I have a proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects within regulated environments. - I excel at problem-solving with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership, and implementing systematic approaches to arrive at solutions. - I apply structured methods (e.g., 5 Whys, decision trees, trade-off matrices, RACI) to clarify options and drive decisions when dealing with ambiguous problems. - I lead in defining, tracking, and delivering team commitments, such as OKRs. - I ensure that domain knowledge is accessible, discoverable, and utilized throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

- I will set and communicate the strategic direction for both the US Payments and Loyalty areas, providing technical and people leadership. - I will own the full payments and loyalty stack end-to-end, which encompasses terminal OS and EMV kernels, our Payments API (PAPI), and consumer loyalty workflows. - I will drive multiple acquirer certifications (Worldpay, TSYS, Fiserv/First Data) and ensure that terminal firmware, peripherals, and kernels remain compliant and compatible. - I will lead the integration of our US infrastructure with SumUp’s global payments and loyalty platform, collaborating with teams across 37 countries to deliver new features at scale. - I will work against an aggressive roadmap that includes three near-term certifications and the successful roll-out of loyalty onboarding within the broader SumUp ecosystem. - I will coach, mentor, and develop engineers while nurturing an inclusive, high-performing culture. - I will partner with Product and Design colleagues to scope projects, eliminate obstacles, and prioritize iterations for effective delivery by my team.
