Requirements
Must:
- Expertise in BGP: I am looking for a candidate with the capability to design, configure, and sustain BGP routing across various peers, including experience with route reflection, policy controls, and failover scenarios.
- Network Architecture Skills: I need someone who can design scalable and redundant ISP-grade networks across core, distribution, and edge layers.
- Security Knowledge: Familiarity with securing BGP sessions through methods such as MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, RPKI, as well as firewall integration and DDoS mitigation is essential.
- Proficient in Protocols & ISP Operations: Understanding of OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, IPv4/IPv6 management, peering agreements, and DNS/DHCP/IPAM is required.
Responsibilities
- Hands-On Implementation: I expect the candidate to configure routers and switches, troubleshoot, and operationalize the design effectively.
- Vendor Experience: Experience with platforms such as Cisco IOS-XR, Palo Alto NGFW, Infoblox, Nutanix, or similar is advantageous.
- Monitoring & Documentation: I want someone who can create NOC dashboards, utilize SNMP/NetFlow, and develop detailed runbooks and network diagrams.
- Collaboration: The candidate must work effectively with various city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers.
Description
This position requires strong communication skills to articulate complex designs to diverse stakeholders. A problem-solving mindset for handling escalations and critical incidents is crucial. A background in municipal broadband or public sector networks is a plus. This is a contract role with a pay range of $115,031.59 - $140,000.65 per year. A Confidential security clearance is preferred. Candidates must be able to commute to Chesapeake, VA 23320 and be willing to relocate there before starting work. This position is in-person.
