Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
- Eight years of varied IT experience, with at least six years focused on systems analysis and application development, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
- Over five years of practical experience in enterprise wireless engineering.
- Proven track record configuring wireless controllers and enterprise access points from the ground up, rather than just managing existing setups.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with production issues involving controllers, access points, and client devices.
- Direct experience with Ekahau for both design and validation surveys.
- Ability to deliver survey results through professional reports detailing findings, root causes, and recommended solutions.
- Solid grasp of switching, VLANs, PoE, DHCP, DNS, NAC/802.1X, and their impact on wireless performance.
- Capable of clearly communicating technical findings to engineers, managers, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness to work on-site for surveys, deployments, troubleshooting, and hardware replacements as needed.
- Relevant certifications such as CWNA/CWDP/CWAP, ECSE, or Cisco wireless certifications are a plus.
- Preferred experience in healthcare, campuses, warehouses, manufacturing, or other high-density/high-complexity wireless environments.
- Experience with voice over Wi-Fi, location-based applications, medical devices, or latency-sensitive applications.
- Experience with controller upgrades, large AP refreshes, and code migrations ensuring minimal user disruption.
Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain Cisco wireless environments from the foundation up, including setting up controllers, WLANs, policy mapping, tags/profiles, access point onboarding, and site implementation.
- Troubleshoot live wireless connectivity issues across the entire stack: controllers, access points, RF, authentication, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, switching, client devices, roaming, and application performance.
- Conduct pre-deployment predictive designs and pre/post-validation surveys using Ekahau for diverse environments such as offices, clinics, and hospitals.
- Analyze survey data to make actionable recommendations: modifications to access point placement, power/channel adjustments, antenna selection, cell sizing, capacity changes, and remediation plans.
- Confirm coverage, capacity, roaming, voice/video readiness, and overall user experience following upgrades or new deployments.
- Assist with wireless upgrades, controller migrations, code updates, access point replacements, and manage incident response during maintenance and outages.
- Collaborate on-site as necessary to troubleshoot, replace malfunctioning hardware, gather RF data, and validate user issues are resolved.
- Create detailed documentation including high-level and low-level design notes, survey reports, MOPs, rollback strategies, root cause analysis documents, and concise updates for leadership.
- Work closely with LAN, security, server, telecom, and endpoint teams to resolve cross-boundary wireless issues.
