Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Over 1 year of practical testing experience (experience from internships, clubs, or similar hands-on activities is acceptable)
- 2 years of hands-on experience with mechanical, structural, propulsion, or fluid systems, and flight hardware or testing operations (preferred)
- Understanding of hazardous systems (cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, pyrophoric)
- Familiarity with high-pressure system design and management
- Knowledge of instrumentation and control components (e.g., pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges)
- Experience with 3D modeling software (e.g., Siemens NX, Inventor, CATIA)
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Matlab, C, C++, Java, Visual Basic)
- Experience in analyzing data from anomalies and determining root causes
- Ability to create and maintain test procedures and hardware work instructions
- Strong creative skills to conceptualize and design efficient, cost-effective, and reliable solutions
- Capability to interpret and apply technical manuals, data reports, mechanical and electrical schematics
- Effective communication skills in a collaborative setting, enjoying teamwork even under stress
- Physical dexterity for working in tight spaces and lifting up to 25 lbs independently
- Flexibility for extended hours, weekends, and varying shifts based on operational needs
Responsibilities
- Create and perform tests at the engine and component level to assess hardware functionality and endurance during missions.
- Take ownership of test campaigns, including developing test plans, activating new systems, conducting test operations, reviewing data, and designing/fabricating test stand equipment.
- Provide daily guidance to technicians for the fabrication and integration of test articles and support equipment.
- Create and maintain test procedures, scripts, sequences, configuration files, and relevant software.
- Operate and troubleshoot data acquisition and control systems, primarily based on National Instruments.
- Manage and troubleshoot fluid and mechanical systems, utilizing a range of gaseous working fluids and rocket propellants (including hypergols and cryogenics).
- Operate various mechanical systems, including test stand support structures, heat exchangers, and fluid components.
- Enhance efficiency and safety by automating routine test operations, developing innovative processes for testing capabilities.
- Identify potential system issues and hazards, working with design engineers to implement improvements for test stands and flight hardware.
