Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Over 5 years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with vehicle testing standards such as FMVSS, ECE, NCAP, IIHS, etc.
- Knowledge of vehicle safety performance benchmarks
- Strong communication and presentation abilities
- Capacity to initiate and manage projects independently
- Proven track record for developing effective processes and work systems
- Positive attitude with a proactive mindset and robust work ethic is essential
- Willingness to travel domestically (up to 30%) and internationally (up to 5%)
- Preferred: In-depth knowledge of safety crash regulations and consumer testing criteria
- Preferred: Understanding of high voltage components
- Preferred: Experience with homologation certifications across various markets
- Preferred: Background in testing high-speed and/or quasi-static setups
Responsibilities
- Oversee the successful execution of vehicle safety attributes, including compliance with passive safety legislation and consumer standards
- Manage planning, budgeting, and resource allocation to align with vehicle safety test plans
- Serve as the primary liaison for program leadership and participate in testing meetings
- Present findings and updates to senior stakeholders, including program management and chief engineers, during attribute and program meetings
- Collaborate with the Vehicle Safety Test Manager and Performance team to establish passive safety objectives
- Direct conceptual designs for structural, exterior, interior, and restraint systems to meet safety targets
- Conduct proof-of-concept testing as necessary to validate new features and designs
- Facilitate the coordination of Vehicle Safety CAE activities pertaining to testing
- Develop and maintain a passive safety testing timetable, reporting through the program development validation plan (DVP)
- Execute vehicle safety tests as required by the vehicle program, including full crash tests, subsystem evaluations, and component assessments
- Oversee the preparation and execution of vehicle tests
- Attend crash tests at supplier facilities for both development and official evaluation
- Ensure that all vehicles and test materials accurately represent design intent and are fit for the intended purpose, in agreement with stakeholders
- Organize support from Vehicle Safety technicians to uphold high standards in vehicle rebuilds, parts sourcing, and teardowns
- Collaborate with external testing partners to ensure compliance with company procedures, industry best practices, and global regulations
- Analyze post-test safety data to confirm adherence to targets and advise on any deviations from expected outcomes
- Lead cross-functional engineering teams, including the CAE team, to identify root causes and deliver solutions for engineering challenges
- Produce comprehensive engineering reports for program testing outcomes
