Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (Masters degree preferred)
- Over 15 years of experience in technology, specifically in software engineering and enterprise IT systems
- More than 7 years leading teams, including managing other managers and cross-functional groups
- Strong expertise in the Microsoft .NET ecosystem (including ASP.NET Core, C#, and SQL Server)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, infrastructure management, and enterprise security best practices
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, SDLC governance, and system architecture
- Proven experience supervising both application development and IT infrastructure
- Exceptional communication, documentation, and presentation abilities
- Experience in the retail energy sector is a plus but not mandatory
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic direction and execution of the enterprise software and IT roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives
- Manage software engineering teams dedicated to developing custom applications, integrations, and enhancing platforms
- Establish and uphold software engineering standards, practices, and patterns to guarantee quality, scalability, and maintainability
- Provide executive direction for Agile project delivery, utilizing Kanban or similar frameworks
- Ensure software projects and enhancements are delivered punctually, within scope, and generate anticipated business outcomes
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of system architecture across legacy platforms, vendor integrations, and new developments
- Oversee infrastructure and security, with operational responsibility delegated to Infrastructure and IT Operations teams
- Assess system health, uptime metrics, and identify risks through routine check-ins and reporting
- Create security governance frameworks, policies, and risk protocols in collaboration with Legal, Compliance, and senior leadership
- Ensure that infrastructure and security measures are appropriately tailored for a regulated energy business
- Act as an escalation contact for infrastructure or security challenges without being the primary operator
- Ensure reliability of systems and appropriate security measures are in place
- Review and evaluate uptime incidents, patching, and overall security posture
- Identify, comprehend, and manage risks effectively
- Work with leadership to communicate incidents and assess business impacts
- Advocate for the responsible integration of AI technologies within software development and internal operations
- Set governance standards for AI application, data access, and ethical implications
- Keep an informed perspective on AI and ML lifecycle concepts and governance
- Regularly assess new AI technologies that could improve productivity, reliability, or customer experiences
- Mentor and develop the Software Engineering and IT Infrastructure teams, encouraging growth for managers and team members
- Collaborate with HR to attract and retain high-quality technology professionals
- Define clear performance metrics, accountability, and career progression paths
- Work closely with Product, Operations, Finance, Risk, and Business Leaders to ensure technology solutions align with enterprise needs
- Convey complex technical information in an accessible manner to non-technical stakeholders
