Requirements
Must:
- You must be able to commit to 15-28 hours of work each week.
- You should be a current student at SHSU, enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
While not mandatory, the ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive in Texas.
- Have some experience with computer hardware and peripherals.
- Be familiar with the Windows 10 operating system; experience with MacOS/iOS is advantageous.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Show a willingness to acquire new skills and adhere to processes, policies, and guidelines.
- Effectively balance their work and personal responsibilities.
- Be reliable and self-motivated.
- Work well in a team environment.
- Be capable of lifting loads up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
As a Student Technician, you will work under the supervision of Tech Shop Technicians, providing Tier 2 Technical Support to campus users. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with configuring and installing various computer systems and peripherals.
- Troubleshooting hardware and software issues that are reported through our ticketing system.
- Keeping accurate records of all tasks performed on assigned tickets.
- Maintaining ongoing communication via phone and email with clients who submitted work orders.
- Assisting with team-wide projects, such as relocating department computer equipment or helping to replace computers in academic labs.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Description
We appreciate your interest in joining our team at Tech Shop, part of the Academic & Research Technology (A&RT) organization at SHSU. We provide a variety of services across campus, including technology provision, technical issue resolution, and consultation for new technology needs. Our primary goal is to configure and deploy computer hardware and software utilized by the entire campus while delivering Tier 2 technical support for various requests and issues. Our full-time Technicians are supported by our Student Workers to ensure that SHSU continues to provide a quality educational experience. We collaborate closely with other IT areas like the Service Desk, Audio/Video team, and Asset Management team in our mission. Often recognized as the “Face of IT,” we seek dedicated Student Workers focused on delivering results and ensuring a positive experience for our clients.
