Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; Masters degree preferred.
- Over 18 years of experience in a technical or engineering setting, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role focused on management of engineers and other managers.
- Proven track record of building and leading a high-performing engineering team, preferably in the Aerospace and Defense sector.
- In-depth understanding of the product development lifecycle, software engineering principles, anti-tamper cybersecurity, and functional execution within regulated industries.
- Experience aligning engineering strategies with broader business and program goals.
- Capability to influence organizational direction through technical leadership and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to navigate ambiguous situations, foresee changes, manage risks, and make impactful decisions.
- Proven success in developing technical talent and overseeing team performance.
- Extensive knowledge in software development, especially in object-oriented design, UML, and embedded systems.
- Proficient in C/C++, Java, and development tools such as VS Code, DOORS, Git, SVN, and PTC Integrity Modeler.
- Familiarity with various development methodologies including Agile, Waterfall, and Spiral.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to simplify complex technical concepts for various audiences.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% to support program and business needs.
- Eligibility to obtain a Secret level clearance.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and expand the Software Engineering team to achieve technical, programmatic, and business goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to convert business strategies into executable software engineering plans, ensuring consistent implementation across the engineering division.
- Oversee software engineering organizational planning and execution, including staffing, budgeting, and resource deployment, to ensure readiness for multiple programs and developments.
- Guide cybersecurity initiatives, leading teams to balance cost, security, usability, and compliance.
- Ensure accountability for accurate cost and scheduling targets, and oversee technical efforts in accordance with those benchmarks.
- Manage cost estimation processes related to contract proposals, IR&D, Capital, and assigned overhead budgets.
- Recruit, develop, and assign engineering talent to adapt to evolving organizational needs, ensuring adequate staffing with appropriate skills.
- Administer the annual performance review process, conduct compensation evaluations, and facilitate career development for the software engineering division.
- Cultivate organizational capabilities by nurturing both management and technical skills through training, knowledge-sharing, and development planning.
- Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and guidance to team members in fulfilling their responsibilities.
- Develop technical solutions, evaluate technical risk, and formulate risk mitigation strategies within the assigned discipline.
- Work alongside the Engineering Leadership Team to identify growth opportunities, promote continuous improvement, and implement best practices to enhance engineering effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration within the team.
