Requirements
Must:
- Must be at least 17 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States
- Reliable personal transportation for travel to service sites up to one hour outside of Tampa
- Full-time commitment required, Monday - Friday from 8 am - 5 pm, plus an average of two Saturdays a month, totaling approximately 42.5 hours weekly to complete 1700 hours of service in a 10-month term
- Interest in acquiring construction skills with a willingness to learn and adapt to various techniques as per onsite training
- Physical endurance for extended periods of labor, regardless of weather conditions
- Strong interpersonal abilities, especially in active listening
- Capacity to maintain composure and professionalism during challenging situations, including client emergencies
- Effective communication skills to convey needs and expectations to diverse groups
- Proven problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities
- Assist in the rebuilding, construction, and reinforcement of homes for disaster survivors
- Lead, guide, and mentor volunteers participating in the rebuilding efforts
- Acquire knowledge of sustainability and energy-efficient construction techniques
- Deploy to disaster-affected communities, ensuring prompt response after natural disasters
- Support community recovery efforts when not on deployment
- Ensure availability of essential tools and materials for construction sites through meticulous planning and organization
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in the warehouse
- Track and manage weekly and monthly goals to minimize waste and adhere to project timelines
- Recruit and coordinate volunteer groups, providing them with information on their impact and motivating them to contribute
Description
We are SBP, an organization committed to aiding individuals and communities in the aftermath of disasters, particularly hurricanes. We focus on reducing recovery time for those affected, helping them rebuild their lives and homes. Our team is looking for dedicated AmeriCorps members to join us in Tampa, Florida, starting April 28th or July 28th. We offer a monthly stipend, housing stipend for eligible members, professional development, and health insurance among other benefits. By working with us, you will gain skills in construction and community service while being part of a larger mission to support disaster survivors.
