Requirements
Must:
- Must be at least 17 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- US citizenship, national status, or lawful permanent residency is necessary.
- Effective interpersonal abilities, including active listening.
- Capacity to remain calm and professional in difficult situations, including client crises.
- Skill in clearly articulating needs and expectations to diverse individuals.
- Availability to serve Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a clean, secure, and efficient work environment.
- Guarantee high-quality construction work.
- Actively engage in construction tasks, completing each phase on time, independently or with volunteers.
- Maintain professionalism and a positive attitude when working with team members, homeowners, and volunteers.
- Perform physically demanding tasks in varied weather conditions over extended periods.
- Educate volunteers about homeowners stories and needs.
- Communicate daily and weekly project expectations.
- Supervise and train volunteers in various construction tasks.
- Serve as the point of contact between homeowners and volunteers.
- Follow safety protocols and participate in ongoing training.
- Meet monthly with the Project Manager for updates and discussions on goals and projects.
- Join community service events such as September 11th and Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, which may occur outside regular working hours.
Description
We are SBP, a social impact organization dedicated to disaster resilience and recovery. We are seeking three passionate AmeriCorps members to assist with lowernine.org in New Orleans, LA, for a 10-month commitment. Our mission focuses on the long-term recovery of the Lower 9th Ward, where we collaborate closely with residents to rebuild homes and restore lives after significant disasters. Our AmeriCorps members will play a crucial role in helping families return to secure and safe housing. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including a monthly stipend, health insurance, and education awards upon successful completion of the term.
