Requirements
Must:
- Associate degree, trade school certification, or equivalent experience in manufacturing or engineering.
- Over 5 years of experience in nesting/programming for plasma burners, lasers, or water jets.
- Strong organizational capabilities with the capacity to manage several priorities and deadlines.
- Proactive approach with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Proficiency in SigmaNEST (or similar nesting software); familiarity with AutoCAD is preferred.
- Strong mechanical understanding of sheet metal layout and fabrication.
- Drafting experience is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate across departments and articulate ideas clearly.
- Sufficient interpersonal skills to effectively engage with internal customers within the department and the company.
- Capacity to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations pertinent to job requirements.
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- High attention to detail and a strong dedication to quality and accuracy.
- Capability to interpret technical drawings and convert them into actionable nesting plans.
Responsibilities
- Execute programming and nesting operations across all Robinson production facilities, ensuring efficient material usage and prompt delivery of CNC programs.
- Develop nests and programs for plasma and laser tables across three facilities in different states.
- Aid in maintaining manufacturing schedule dates and coordinate necessary materials from both inventory and customer-specific purchases.
- Utilize SigmaNest software to create cut packages, focusing on maximizing utilization and minimizing waste while using available stock material.
- Modify and utilize CAD files provided by design engineers and drafters.
- Possess knowledge of raw materials for sheet metal fabrication and production techniques to enhance manufacturing effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with drafting, engineering, and operations teams to align nesting strategies with production objectives.
- Promote process enhancement by assessing current workflows, documenting best practices, and implementing improvements.
- Resolve production-related issues creatively through nesting processes.
- Oversee steel plate ordering via the purchasing department according to production demands and nesting plans.
- Ensure accurate documentation and systematic organization of nesting files and CNC code by established protocols.
- Assist in quoting and planning by supplying material estimates and nesting insights to management.
- Guide and support team members on nesting best practices and software use.
- Track and report on nesting performance, material utilization, and avenues for cost reduction.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholders, supporting production-related priorities and timelines.
