Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering).
- At least 5 years of cumulative experience in robotics, automation, and complex system architecture, particularly focused on mobile platforms (AGVs/AMRs).
- Demonstrated proficiency in defining and architecting at least two of the following core mobile robot areas: drive systems & motion control, electrical/power management, or perception.
- In-depth technical understanding of industrial controls, networking, and communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, CAN, EtherCAT) as they apply to distributed mobile systems.
- Proven capability in translating high-level operational requirements into detailed, actionable technical specifications and architectures.
- Strong leadership skills to facilitate technical discussions, influence cross-functional teams, and produce clear documentation for complex system designs.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
Responsibilities
- Establish the foundational hardware, software, and controls architecture for Rivians AGV and AMR platforms, ensuring scalability and adaptability across all manufacturing sites.
- Spearhead co-development of core systems alongside internal teams and external specialists, determining technical requirements and validating component effectiveness to create industry-leading solutions.
- Manage the technical roadmap and lifecycle of the mobile robot platform, guiding decisions on crucial components, system interfaces, and future technological enhancements.
- Carry out high-level trade-off analyses to lend technical leadership and rationale for significant platform design choices.
- Act as the primary technical liaison among Hardware Engineering, Software/Controls Engineering, and Manufacturing Operations to align the platform design with integration and production needs.
- Develop and uphold a functional safety architecture for the mobile robot platform, ensuring adherence to relevant standards.
- Create and enforce standardized technical specifications, interface control documents, and validation plans for the entire AGV/AMR fleet.
- Maintain a robust understanding of emerging robotics technologies, industry trends, and competing platforms, actively recognizing opportunities for platform optimization and innovation.
