Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline.
- Over 5 years of relevant experience in lubrication engineering, component design, or similar roles within automotive, off-highway, industrial gearboxes, or like sectors.
- Proficient CAD skills with experience in 3D parametric modeling, 2D drawing creation, and PLM systems (preferably CATIA/ENOVIA).
- Strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards for radial and linear stackups.
- Familiarity with system analysis and simulation tools such as FEA, MFA, CFD, SPH, or thermal/oil flow tools is highly desirable.
- Experience in designing or evaluating validation plans and accelerated tests for lubrication performance based on vehicle duty cycles and environmental contexts.
- Background in tribology, thin-film lubrication theory, and lubricant formulation is advantageous.
- Capacity to operate autonomously, organize ambiguous challenges, and drive decisions.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the capability to articulate complex design and lubrication subjects to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Hands-on, data-centric approach to problem-solving, including root-cause analysis of testing or field issues and thorough documentation of findings and next steps.
- A continuous-learning mindset and eagerness to explore new technologies and manufacturing methods that enhance efficiency, durability, and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Develop lubrication strategies for electric drive units, gearboxes, differentials, and half shafts to achieve durability, efficiency, NVH, and thermal objectives throughout the complete vehicle duty cycle.
- Spearhead the design of lubrication system components such as pumps, filters, seals, and plastic injection molded items from initial concept to production.
- Create component specifications with comprehensive design requirements and validation plans that align with higher-level lubrication system and drive unit specifications.
- Collaborate with suppliers and our internal cross-functional teams to ensure components fulfill all design, manufacturing, commercial, quality, and service criteria, including on-site support during product launches.
- Document design best practices and insights to facilitate continuous improvement and streamline the product development process.
- Team up with System, DRE, Materials, Reliability, and Test teams to integrate lubrication requirements into design concepts, DFMEAs, validation frameworks, and design evaluations.
- Design experiments and testing apparatus to support bench, rig, dyno, and vehicle testing focused on lubrication system and component efficacy.
- Analyze field and experimental test data to identify lubrication-related challenges (noise, wear, varnish, deposits, leaks) and initiate thorough root-cause analysis alongside corrective actions.
- Draft clear technical documentation and reports, and convey recommendations and trade-offs to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
