Requirements
Must:
- Over 8 years of experience managing both Windows Server and RHEL environments
- Demonstrated experience in performing OS upgrades and migrations, preferably from legacy/EOL systems
- Extensive hands-on expertise with RHEL (versions 5-9) and Windows Server (2008-2022)
- Skilled in scripting and automation tools (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible)
- Experience with system hardening, patching, and vulnerability management
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities across Linux and Windows systems
- Background in working within virtualized environments (e.g., VMware)
- Excellent documentation and inter-team collaboration skills
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of STIG/CIS compliance and security frameworks
- Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, OpenSCAP)
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Relevant certifications (Security+, RHCSA/RHCE, Microsoft certifications)
Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of outdated Windows Server and RHEL systems to contemporary, supported platforms
- Analyze current systems and formulate upgrade strategies focusing on risk, security, and business implications
- Implement OS upgrades and system rebuilds while ensuring minimal downtime and interruptions
- Conduct system validation following migrations (performance, compatibility, networking, services)
- Configure and maintain system settings for security, storage, and networking
- Automate system administration processes using tools like PowerShell, Bash, and Ansible
- Enforce system hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation per security standards
- Troubleshoot and fix system and application issues across both Windows and Linux environments
- Assist in backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning and execution
- Document system configurations, migration procedures, and operational functionalities
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to guarantee successful system integration and delivery
- Provide ongoing support and optimization of systems following migrations
Description
We are looking for a Senior Support Technician to assist in a significant infrastructure modernization initiative aimed at upgrading and migrating legacy Windows Server and RHEL systems. Our team is committed to enhancing system performance, security, and stability across enterprise environments. This is a hands-on position requiring a blend of troubleshooting skills, a security-focused mindset, and strong collaboration with diverse IT teams in a hybrid work setting. The position is based in Austin, Texas, and is a contract role with a competitive hourly salary.
