Requirements
Must:
- 5-7 years of hands-on experience
- Must have experience in the healthcare industry
- Extensive background in modernizing legacy data-intensive systems at scale
- Proven track record in decoupling business logic from relational databases and re-implementing it in application or platform environments
- Strong expertise in C#/.NET or similar modern, multi-paradigm programming languages, focusing on modularity and testability
- In-depth knowledge of SQL and relational databases, including performance tuning and assessing whether functionality should reside in the database or elsewhere
- Experience in designing systems that manage large volume, multi-tenant data utilizing batch, micro-batch, or near real-time processing methods
- Demonstrated capability in defining and executing incremental modernization strategies without disrupting production
- Experience supporting systems as they transition from product to platform, accommodating multiple integrations and consumers
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or relevant practical experience)
- Advanced degree is an advantage but not essential
Responsibilities
- Lead the gradual modernization of an extensive Oracle-centric system by transferring business logic and intensive processing from PL/SQL into more modern application and platform components
- Develop architectures that utilize the database primarily for durable storage and efficient data access, while handling complex rules, detection logic, enrichment, and aggregation outside the database environment
- Establish processing strategies that may encompass in-process, distributed, stateful, or partitioned execution models based on workload characteristics, including batch, near real-time, scale, and data volume
- Define and enhance the target architecture and technology stack while prioritizing open-source ecosystems and vendor-neutral patterns
- Create solutions capable of handling hundreds of millions of records across different tenants, ensuring throughput, scalability, data isolation, and cost-effectiveness
- Formulate migration strategies that allow for parallel execution, validate parity, and ensure safe incremental transitions as logic is transitioned away from the database
- Provide technical leadership as the product evolves to incorporate:
o New clinical and operational data feeds,
o Modular services and APIs,
o Authentication and authorization capabilities,
o Internal and external integrations
- Define architectural standards for data ingestion, as well as batch and near real-time processing, service boundaries, and API design
- Ensure systems maintain scalability, observability, reliability, and auditability, suitable for regulated healthcare settings
- Stay actively involved, contributing to design and coding while mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams
Description
We are looking for a Senior Technologist / Principal Architect to take a leading role in the hands-on technical leadership of our mature healthcare analytics product as it evolves into a scalable platform. The initial responsibility will be focused on modernizing a legacy Oracle/PL/SQL drug diversion detection system that processes vast amounts of data per tenant. As this product expands, so will your broader responsibilities on the platform. This position can be performed remotely as a contract role, offering a competitive hourly rate between $79 - $89.
