Requirements
Must:
- Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or lead mechanic role within a hotel or similar environment; or a technical certification accompanied by at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Stationary engineers license if mandated by local ordinances.
- Proficient in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Willingness to work extended hours as necessary.
- Capability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently, as well as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects weighing up to 20 pounds consistently.
- Maintain a warm and welcoming demeanor at all times.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to engage with employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, and courteous manner.
- Effective listening skills to clarify and address concerns from employees and guests.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize departmental functions to adhere to deadlines.
- Approaches interactions with guests and colleagues in a friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Attendance at all required hotel meetings and training sessions is expected.
- Participation in Manager on Duty (M.O.D.) coverage as essential.
- Consistent adherence to attendance as per Highgate Hotel standards, with scheduling varying based on the hotels needs.
- Strive to maintain high standards of personal grooming and appearance, including the wearing of name tags.
- Comply with Highgate Hotel policies and standards to foster safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Focus on productivity, identify issues, and assist in implementing solutions.
- Skilled in managing problems, including anticipating, identifying, and resolving issues effectively.
- Ability to comprehend and analyze complex information and data from various sources to achieve set objectives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for managing reports, logs, and documentation.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and energy management preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA standards, and local building codes.
- Capable of maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Willingness to perform additional tasks as directed by management.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the development and execution of plans to preserve hotel property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in a safe and satisfactory state of repair.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Oversee and educate all Engineering personnel on customer service, empowerment, standard operating procedures, and loss prevention tactics.
- Generate and distribute schedules for the Engineering team.
- Establish and follow an annual budget for the department.
- Assist in preparing financial forecasts and engage in monthly profit and loss review meetings actively.
- Design and implement a preventative maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
- Guarantee that all emergency and life safety equipment and systems undergo inspections, testing, and certification per Highgate standards.
- Actively engage in energy conservation initiatives.
- Review guest and meeting planner feedback to ensure timely resolution of any noted issues.
- Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Aid in managing all vendor contracts overseen by the engineering department.
- Ensure prompt and courteous handling of room maintenance requests.
- Respond quickly to all alarms to ascertain the location and cause, assessing emergency status and reporting findings to the Front Desk, taking necessary action immediately.
- Provide assistance as necessary on special projects and renovations.
- Support and engage in all Highgate Hotel programs.
- Lead and/or participate in the Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.
