Requirements
Must:
- PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, or related natural and physical sciences OR PhD or equivalent in Policy Analysis, Health Services Management, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Business, showcasing formal methods of decision support analysis
- Masters degree in the aforementioned fields with a minimum of 3 years relevant professional experience
- Bachelors degree in the same areas with at least 5 years relevant professional experience
- Experience in nucleic acid synthesis, AI-driven biodesign, dual-use research concerns, pandemic pathogens, personal protective equipment, bioterrorism, or pathogen-agnostic biosurveillance preferred
- Proven knowledge and ability to analyze or execute policies regarding strategy, operations, tactics, systems, or organizations
- Proficiency in quantitative analysis and modeling, including uncertainty modeling
- Experience in government, intelligence community, or relevant decision-making offices preferred but not mandatory
- Evidence of research experience demonstrated through academic publications, conference presentations, or prior professional reports
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government clearance preferred
Responsibilities
- Conduct research addressing critical questions on global and emerging risks related to AI and biosecurity
- Analyze and assess prevention options and resilience strategies, alongside policy implications
- Prepare and present findings to both technical and lay audiences through concise policy briefs and comprehensive written reports
- Develop high-quality analyses that uphold RANDs commitment to objectivity and rigorous methodology
- Collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver impactful research outcomes
