Requirements
Must:
- A Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or software engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- 1-3 years of experience in systems design and development, software creation, Linux infrastructures, databases, along with proficiency in programming or scripting languages.
- Demonstrated experience in crafting strategic system architecture plans utilizing UML/SysML.
- Extensive expertise in system and network creation and development.
- Knowledge and experience with Unix/Linux environments functioning as embedded systems.
- Familiarity with developing highly functional embedded systems.
- Proven ability to identify, analyze, and address system issues.
- Experience with the development of control systems.
- Familiarity with computer servers, including DNS, file servers, mail servers, and NAS equipment.
- Knowledge of computer networking, including LAN and WAN switches and security.
- Proficient in software design and execution.
- Solid understanding of information processing fundamentals and best practices.
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
- Experience conducting research on technology, trends, standards, and products.
- A self-starter mindset, ready to undertake necessary tasks for system design, implementation, and testing.
- Proven ability to prioritize and execute tasks under pressure.
- Capable of functioning exceptionally well as a team member, sometimes prioritizing business and strategic solutions over personal preferences.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement assigned software components.
- Develop and deploy railway systems both within the United States and internationally, with potential travel up to 30%.
- Collaborate with the team to devise solutions to critical technical challenges related to control systems.
- Work closely with others to establish a vision for the platform’s architecture, create a roadmap for future development, and engage directly with engineers for implementation.
- Evaluate new technologies to determine their value.
- Report directly to the Director of Software Engineering and work in tandem with various engineering groups to deliver practical and highly functional railway systems.

As the ATO Systems Engineer, I oversee the architectural design of railway embedded control software and utilize UML/SysML to document systems and subsystems, alongside other engineering activities that support product development and deployment.
