Requirements
Must:
- Over 7 years of professional experience in an analytical or information specialist role within academic, nonprofit, corporate, or consulting environments.
- Profound understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts, as well as machine learning methodologies, clustering, classification techniques, and optimization algorithms.
- Strong motivation to tackle business challenges and uncover patterns in both structured and unstructured datasets.
- Expertise in analyzing large and intricate multi-dimensional datasets utilizing diverse tools.
- Proficient in statistical analysis environments such as R, MATLAB, SPSS, or SAS.
- Experience with business intelligence tools like Tableau.
- Familiarity with relational databases, warehouse design, and architectural principles.
- Understanding of big data frameworks, including Hadoop, Hive, and Spark.
- Solid programming and scripting skills, particularly in SQL, Python, and Java.
- Strong foundation in statistical, mathematical, predictive modeling concepts, coupled with business strategy skills to formulate effective algorithms.
- Knowledgeable in areas such as natural language processing, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and hypothesis testing.
- Capability to develop examples and prototypes to illustrate concepts to management.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proficient in planning and establishing significant objectives aligned with office targets, alongside the ability to articulate and advocate for these goals.
- Education: Bachelors Degree in operations research, applied statistics, data mining, machine learning, or related quantitative discipline is essential.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Princetons mission, experience in higher education, advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) strongly favored, and a comprehension of philanthropy and fundraising practices preferred.
Responsibilities
- Apply a mix of business acumen, analytical skills, and programming expertise to drive new innovations and data exploration.
- Develop recommendation systems or automated lead scoring frameworks to enhance our prospect management strategy and marketing segmentation using machine learning methods.
- Manage structured data while innovating unstructured data architecture and analysis.
- Utilize statistical programming languages like R or Python and database querying languages like PL/SQL.
- Leverage innovative strategies to deepen knowledge and promote a big data environment.
- Identify relevant internal and external data sources and implement new data collection methods, including social media and web analytics.
- Collaborate with business users to clarify desired outcomes and requirements for analyses, data visualization, and reporting.
- Share expertise in mathematical concepts for broader applied analytics, fostering the adoption of advanced data science practices within the Advancement Office.
- Effectively communicate findings or the workings of techniques to various audiences through presentation tools, aiming to enhance strategic decision-making and comprehension of business analytics at all organizational levels.
- Address daily operational queries as necessary, pinpoint critical improvement areas, and collaborate on developing solutions aimed at enhancing customer service.
- Act as the project lead for the data science teams tasks and priorities, aligning closely with the Executive Director and relevant stakeholders to ensure project congruence with departmental and Advancement priorities.
- Oversee the hiring and professional growth of team members, including training, mentorship, and setting objectives and performance metrics.
- Manage staff performance, conducting evaluations, and tracking team metrics.
- Contribute to and conceive strategies and best practices for maintaining a comprehensive, reliable, and innovative data environment.
- Review and recommend new technologies, vendor services, and information sources while staying updated on industry trends relevant to the Advancement Office.
- Cultivate proficiency in using advanced analytics and database tools, internet resources, and in-house data for effective analysis.

This pivotal role transforms data into actionable insights, employing statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques to facilitate data-driven decision-making organization-wide. We seek a creative thinker who can present clear, comprehensible data findings to our colleagues and drive strategic planning across teams. This position includes managing day-to-day operations of our data science team, serving as a liaison with other teams, and supporting our fundraising and engagement operations.
