Requirements
Must:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency in industrial electrical power systems, including NEC, NFPA 70E, and OSHA electrical safety standards.
- Basic exposure to medium voltage equipment and motor systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a willingness to work in operational facilities.
- Ability to travel to support various sites.
Responsibilities
- Uphold and demonstrate strong personal safety leadership while promoting Nucors safety culture.
- Assist in arc flash studies, electrical hazard assessments, and compliance with NFPA 70E/70B.
- Contribute to crafting engineered solutions aimed at reducing electrical risks and enhancing safety for personnel.
- Ensure compliance of electrical work and designs with OSHA, NEC, and company electrical standards.
- Support the design, evaluation, and troubleshooting of low and medium voltage power systems (480V through 15kV).
- Engage in power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash analysis.
- Troubleshoot plant power issues, such as voltage drops, nuisance tripping, and equipment failures.
- Review electrical one-line diagrams and assist in maintaining documentation accuracy.
- Manage technical aspects and reliability of medium voltage shredder motors and associated equipment.
- Aid in developing maintenance and operating strategies for medium voltage motors, starters/drives, and transformers.
- Coordinate troubleshooting efforts for shredder motor issues, including startups and power quality impacts.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams, vendors, and contractors for repairs, testing, and recommissioning.
- Participate as a supporting electrical engineer on capital and improvement projects.
