Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in computer science or a related field with at least 3 credit hours in database and/or operating systems courses
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in database administration and/or systems administration
- Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database principles
- Comprehensive knowledge of Linux or Unix-like environments
- Solid skills in shell scripting
- One year of service as Information Technology Specialist 1 or equivalent non-competitive NY Helps or 55-b/55-c service
Responsibilities
- Act as a gatekeeper for our Oracle environment by meticulously reviewing all incoming requests from application teams and others
- Review daily alerts by logging into servers and proactively examining logs, performance metrics, and implementing remedial actions as needed
- Conduct Oracle system administration tasks and hardware support, including system installation, cabling, and component replacement
- Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle operating systems, firmware, clusterware, Oracle databases, and middleware like BI Publisher
- Use Oracle Enterprise Manager to proactively identify issues through advanced features such as metric extensions and monitoring templates
- Address server and database crashes, along with performance-related problems
- Document all processes precisely and continually refine them
- Collaborate with application and helpdesk teams to ensure server and client-side Oracle drivers remain current
- Work effectively with Oracle Support and manage their support portal, including integration with hardware assets and ASR fault monitoring
- Understand Oracle licensing and ensure compliance by conducting informal audits occasionally
- Collaborate with senior specialists on Oracle-related purchasing and gain insight into hardware, server, and database architecture
