Requirements
Must:
- Minimum of 4 years experience in Java software development
- Proficient in Core Java
- Experience with Spring/Spring Boot (preferred)
- Familiarity with REST APIs
- Knowledge of Struts, EJB, and other Java EE design patterns
- At least 4 years experience with SQL databases (Oracle, SQL Server, or similar)
- Competency with version control systems (Git)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
- Availability for occasional nights and weekends for code deployments and application support
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks to meet deadlines
- Experience with Unix/Linux and Bourne/Korn shell scripting (minimum of 2 years)
- Familiarity with GoAnywhere - secure file transfer software (preferred)
- Proficiency in databases, particularly MSSQL (preferred)
- Experience with Azure DevOps and distributed version control systems (preferred)
- Background in application modernization or migration projects (preferred)
- Experience in regulated industries such as Oil & Gas, Healthcare, or Government (preferred)
- Understanding of service-oriented architecture (SOA) concepts, microservices, and RESTful APIs (preferred)
- Familiarity with creation and manipulation of .PDF documents or experience with iText (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Analyze current Java applications to understand business logic, workflows, and overall system behavior
- Review source code (Spring, Java EE, or legacy frameworks) to identify business rules, data flows, and integration points
- Collaborate with Business Analysts to clarify technical functionality in business language and validate requirements with current system behavior
- Document findings including functional specifications, process flows, data mappings, and technical design documents
- Support application modernization efforts by identifying reusable logic and dependencies
- Assist in troubleshooting and clarifying system behavior during testing phases
- Engage in discussions with architects, developers, and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive understanding of existing systems
- Analyze transitions from legacy applications using Struts, EJB, or other Java EE design patterns, as well as newer applications using Spring
- Conduct technical analysis on existing defects or proposed enhancements for improved efficiency
- Contribute to the project team during sprint/release cycles by providing development effort estimates and discussing architecture and design
