Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Advanced understanding of the business environment and related competition
- Strong advocate for change and effective communicator
- Must possess data governance experience and technical knowledge, able to assume Technical Data Steward responsibilities when necessary
- Experience with system administration
- Proven capability to make informed decisions on behalf of Business Data Owners
- Familiarity with data management and governance roles, principles, processes, and procedures
- Knowledge and experience in Banking, Finance, or Investments, including familiarity with relevant terminology, concepts, and processes
- Experience in dashboard development and/or data management, including the use of SQL queries in software like SSMS or VS Code
- Experience in data profiling for documenting definitions and supporting accurate, consistent information usage
Responsibilities
- Promote the operational implementation of data governance within their scope
- Inform and execute the data governance plans for the Business Unit
- Establish and monitor performance metrics to showcase the success of data governance initiatives and identify areas for improvement within the EDG framework
- Act as a liaison and support contact to address data-related inquiries and issues with respective business data teams
- Create and enforce data governance controls in partnership with the BU Risk Officer to manage data governance risk effectively
- Collaborate with the BU Managing Data Steward and Technical Data Stewards to resolve governance issues and implement solutions
- Serve as a communication bridge with Managing Data Stewards, EDG Office, and other area Business Data Stewards to ensure consistent governance practices
- Work alongside the BU Risk Officer to validate data governance controls for the unit
- Define and supervise performance metrics to display the success of data governance objectives and associated plans, recommending improvements as necessary
- Complete necessary EDG training to effectively uphold data governance responsibilities
- Facilitate coordination with business area data teams to identify downstream data consumers and serve as a contact for inquiries related to data
- Authorize data transfers on behalf of the Data Owner, adhering to Data Handling requirements
- Manage processes for accessing, classifying, and safeguarding data within the team according to established policies
- Provide and validate definitions, acceptable values, and calculation logic for data attributes
- Ensure business data is thoroughly identified and cataloged with complete, precise, and high-quality metadata
- Collaborate with Information Security and Technical Data Stewards to address any vulnerabilities in data discovered on Navy Federal networks
- Work closely with the Technical Data Steward to conduct root cause analysis and solve issues, serving as a point of resolution before escalating to the Data Owner or other entities
- Actively mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Perform additional duties as required
