Requirements

Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Astronomy, Physics, or equivalent professional experience - At least four years of progressive experience as a Linux systems administrator in mission-critical or scientific computing environments - Expert knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9; RHCE or RHCA certification is highly preferred - Proficient in infrastructure automation and orchestration tools, including Ansible Automation Platform - Skilled in Python 3 and SQL (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL) for system monitoring and reporting - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly - Experience with container platforms like Kubernetes/OpenShift and Docker Swarm - Familiarity with monitoring and alerting systems such as Telegraf and Prometheus - Ability to remain composed while assisting demanding clients - Knowledge of agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and traditional waterfall project management - Willingness to travel occasionally to NRAO sites and work at moderate altitudes

Responsibilities

- Design, implement, and manage RHEL-based systems for processing and archiving scientific data across global observatories - Lead the migration to GitOps-driven infrastructure and application deployment to enhance auditability and reproducibility - Transition legacy science services from Docker Swarm to a Kubernetes-based environment - Develop and maintain automation tools in Python and SQL to monitor pipeline health and produce operational metrics - Serve as Level-3 support for production incidents and conduct root-cause analyses, authoring post-mortem reports as necessary - Address escalated support tickets, providing timely updates to astronomers during incidents - Participate in agile development cycles, including sprints and stand-up meetings, to drive stakeholder projects forward - Validate software releases, prepare deployment packages, and create user documentation and training materials - Contribute to the Common Computing Environment (CCE) initiative for standardization across sites - Mentor junior and peer administrators on best practices for automation and operational processes
