Requirements

Must:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, astronomy, physics, or equivalent professional experience - Minimum of four years of experience as a Linux systems administrator in mission-critical or scientific computing settings - Expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9; RHCE or RHCA certification is highly preferred - Proficient in Python 3 automation and SQL (Oracle) for monitoring, reporting, and system health - Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex data flows - Skilled in Ansible Automation Platform and production container platforms (mainly Docker Swarm; Kubernetes/OpenShift is a plus) - Effective communication skills, capable of simplifying complex technical concepts into clear updates for diverse audiences - Familiarity with high-data-rate scientific data pipelines and experience with astronomical archive systems is a plus - Experience in agile (Scrum/Kanban) and traditional waterfall project methodologies is desirable

Responsibilities

- Manage the implementation and lifecycle of RHEL-based systems for scientific data processing and archiving - Provide support for systems handling the scientific data flow from the Joint ALMA Observatory to the North American ALMA Science Center - Deploy ALMA software in our Docker environments, collaborating with JAO and other ALMA Regional Centers - Execute deployments of the CASA software package - Monitor data flows, storage capabilities, and performance of archive and pipeline systems - Develop automation tools using Python and SQL to oversee data pipeline health, generate metrics, and trigger alerts; provide weekly health reports - Act as Level-3 escalation support for production incidents, conducting root-cause analysis and implementing preventive strategies - Manage and resolve escalated support tickets, offering timely updates to astronomers during incidents - Participate in agile cycles, contributing to stakeholder projects through measurable improvements - Contribute to the NRAO Common Computing Environment initiative for standardization and knowledge sharing - Travel occasionally to NRAO sites and international operations centers as needed
